Welcome to the ALU Writing Centre Blog!


The ALU Writing Centre Blog is a platform where the writing of the ALU community will be showcased both internally, as well as to those outside of the institution. We will accept excellent, credible and rigorous papers that fit into the creative, academic and professional tracks.


What are we looking for?


Option 1 (Creative Track):

We are looking for original, creative writing that is explicitly related to one of the themes below:

Themes:

  1. In-person learning versus virtual learning

  2. What makes one truly African?

  3. Entrepreneurship is the way of the future

  4. The impact of strong leadership

  5. School subjects that open doors

(Word limit: 800 words)


Option 2 (Academic Track):

We are looking for original, academically sound and correctly referenced writing that is explicitly related to one of the themes below:

Themes:

  1. Education should be free

  2. Everyone should have clean water

  3. Animal experimentation for any reason is wrong

  4. Violence in the media is responsible for an increase in violence among young people

  5. Binge drinking on college campuses is a serious health issue

(Word limit: 1000 words excluding the reference list)


Option 3 (Professional Track):

We are looking for original writing suitable for a professional context, based on the topics below:

Topics:

  1. Cover letter for your dream job

  2. Report on corporate social responsibility related to a particular business

  3. A letter requesting a pay rise

  4. A pitch

  5. A statement of interest

(Word limit: 600 words)


Process:

If you would like your writing to be featured on our site, please contact us directly at thewritingcentre@alueducation.com and we will send you the instructions, guidelines and acceptance criteria.


You will be notified (via email) within 7 - 10 working days if your writing has been accepted for publication. Furthermore, published texts will be sent to the Journal of African Challenges for consideration.
